"Curt" Harold Curtiss Burrell

H. Curtiss Burrell, 85, of Powell Butte, Oregon passed away on his farm January 21, 2018 with his beloved Great Pyrenees dogs, “Sassie” and “Sunshine,” nearby.  Surviving are his wife Patricia B. Burrell and children Richard C. Burrell and fiancée Nikki L. Thomas; Katherine B. Peppers and son-in-law Timothy A. Peppers, and his grandchildren Annie and Ian Peppers who affectionately called him “G-Dog.”  The only child of Harold A. Burrell and Gladys D. Burrell, Curt was a native of New York and New Jersey.  After graduating from Morristown High School, he went to the University of Vermont and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture and Life Sciences.  A veteran of the U.S. Army, Curt served in the Border Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Customs, and the Drug Enforcement Administration for 32 years.   After retiring, Curt and Patty settled in Powell Butte, Oregon where for 27 years he operated his ranch “Llamalandia,” raising and transporting sheep, llamas, alpacas, camels, yaks and other exotics.  When he wasn’t working on his ranch, or doing background investigations for the FBI, you could likely find him volunteering for the Crook County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, which he was involved with for 24 years.  The Prineville Chapter of the Oregon Band of Brothers Honor Guard will conduct a Military Honor ceremony to be held on his ranch this summer.   En lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the Crook County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue or the Humane Society of the Ochocos through Whispering Pines Funeral Home - 3168 NE 3rd Street - Prineville, Oregon  97754.   541-416-9733.  When sending in your checks please make them out to the organization of your choosing.
