Julie Anne (Elrod) Sarafian, formerly of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on March 28, 2018 in Bend, Oregon. A funeral service in memory of Julie will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Whispering Pines Funeral Home in Prineville, Oregon. Interment will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville, Oregon.
Julie was born on July 18, 1967 in Camp Zama, Japan and she grew up primarily in Lawton, Oklahoma, graduating from Eisenhower High School in 1985 and from Cameron University in 1991. During her baccalaureate years she had the opportunity to work summers on US military bases in southern Germany (Bavaria) and in Italy. She very much enjoyed these European experiences and always retained fond memories of this period of her life. After several years of initial employment, Julie then earned an MBA from Oklahoma City University.
Julie met and later married Gregory Sarafian while he was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Julie then lived in an assortment of places, to include two times in Germany, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Northern Virginia / Washington DC, Colorado, and Virginia Beach. More recently she resided in Prineville and Bend, Oregon, and in Coronado, California.
While Julie had held various positions of employment, such as in hospital administration at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, her primary interests involved supporting and assisting a wide range of families with children having special medical needs. Julie’s passion was the development and growth of her two sons.
Julie was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Hankins.
Julie is survived by her husband, Gregory Sarafian, her children, Evan and Harrison Sarafian, her father, Frank Hankins, her sister, Laura Gagermeier, and her brother, Frank Hankins Jr.
