"Chic" Charles L. Burgess, 93, of Prineville passed away on April 12, 2018. There will be a service held on May 12, 2018 at the Prineville Community Church (520 NE Elm Street) at 2:00 PM with a snack reception to follow. Pastor Chris Cookston will be officiating.
Chic was born on April 7, 1925 in Tumalo, Oregon to Samuel L. and Martha Myrtle (Scoggin) Burgess. He grew up at Shevlin-Hixon Logging camps attending school in LaPine, Oregon. He graduated from Crook County High School.
Chic joined the United States Marine Corp during World War II and served from 1943-1945 in the South Pacific. After his military service he worked at the Alexander-Yawkey Mill until he got a job with Ochoco Lumber Company as a scaler and timber faller. He formed his own logging company and worked that until retiring in 1986.
He married Bonnie Stone in November of 1948 in Prineville, Oregon.
He enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He liked to golf, hunt, fish, camp, travel, RV and boat. Chic was a member of the Prineville Community Church, Prineville Golf Club, Senior Men's Golf Club, Prineville Band Of Brothers and Associated Loggers.
Chic was preceded in death by parents, a sister and a brother.
Chic is survived by his wife of 69 years; Bonnie, two daughters; Diane (James) Kenny of Powell Butte, Oregon and Peggy (Dennis) Brennan of Enterprise, Oregon, four grandchildren; Aaron & Cody Kenny, Charlie & Josi Brennan, six great-grandchildren, two sisters; Marjorie Harris of Elgin, Oregon and Rosanna Duberow of Burns, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.
