James Dunn Obituary

James William Dunn, 92, of Prineville passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 24, 2018.

James was born on June 13, 1926 in Bend, Oregon to William Isaac and Harriett Cyrene (Fuller) Dunn.  He graduated from Gilchrist High School. James served in the US Navy during WWII as Chief Gunners Mate in amphibious landing forces at Okinawa, Iwo Jima and the invasion of Japan.  When he returned from the war, he married Bonita Jane Lockhart of Gilchrist in 1947.

James worked in the timber industry for 45 years mostly as a log truck driver and the owner/operator of the famous 600 K.W.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Prineville for 58 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher.  He was known as an honest man with good character.

James enjoyed golfing, bowling, square dancing, hunting and being horseback; helping his sons brand.

James was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bonita, and both his parents.

He is survived by two sons; Mike (Sue) Dunn of Powell Butte and Lee (Frances) Dunn of Prineville, 1 grandson, 4 granddaughters, 1 great grandson and 2 great granddaughters. 

There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday October 31, 2018 at 2 pm at the Juniper Haven Cemetery (1555 N Main Street). Dave Vaughan will be officiating.  To offer the family your condolences please go to www.whisperingpinesfuneralhome.com
