Walter (Papa) Howard Orum, 94, of Prineville passed away on Friday November 1, 2019. There will be a public viewing on Thursday November 7, 2019 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Whispering Pines Funeral Home (3168 NE 3rd Street). There will be a graveside service held Friday November 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Juniper Haven Cemetery (1555 North Main Street). Walter was born on July 23, 1925 to Tolbert and Oneda May (Mills) Orum in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Walter attended Fresno State and graduated in 1947. He served in the US Army during WWII. He went on to do many jobs; including lumberjack, civil service, repaired and hauled motors, automobiles, trucks, tractors and airplanes. Walter was recruited by NASA on the Saturn Probe in Huntsville, Alabama.
Walter enjoyed singing karaoke, playing guitar, building and racing cars, scuba diving and skiing.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Shirley Mae Orum, daughters; Michelle Annette Zack and Rita Mae Thompson, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
