Geraldine Ann (Lucas) Anderson-Smith, who went by Ann, was born on December 1, 1922, in Wasco, Oregon where she lived through fifth grade. Growing up, she also lived in Condon, Portland, and The Dalles where she graduated from high school. Ann played basketball, was in the drum and bugle corps, and was a member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls.

Ann married Earl Adam Smith in July 1946 and moved to Mitchell where they ranched for 20 years. In 1964, Ann and Earl moved to Antelope where they continued to ranch for the next 40 years. Ann was always civically engaged and was a member of the CowBelles from 1960-1972, serving as president for both Wasco County and the State of Oregon. She was also active in her local community, serving as the chairperson of the refurbishing committee for the Antelope Church and School, and belonging to the Extension Group. During her years in Antelope, she traveled frequently throughout the United States and internationally, including to Mexico, Canada, China, Australia, and Europe.

Among other pursuits, Ann stayed busy during her ranching days cooking many large meals and feeding many ranch workers and helpers during branding and harvesting seasons. She maintained the accounting books for the ranch and also liked to garden and knit. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, and golfing with friends. She also hosted many social and holiday gatherings for family and friends. Both of her grandchildren have lasting memories of adventures they experienced with her during summer vacations on the ranch.

After Earl passed away in 2006, Ann moved to Prineville where she enjoyed attending monthly luncheons with a ladies’ group. Always an avid reader, she also kept abreast of the news and never skipped the daily crossword puzzle. She enjoyed sitting on her back deck with a cup of strong coffee, keeping deer from eating her flowers, and watching the beautiful sunsets that Central Oregon has to offer.

In March 2015, Ann moved to a retirement home in Eugene to be closer to family, where she enjoyed going for walks and joining her son and daughter-in-law for special church services and local excursions like food festivals, musical performances, and theatrical productions. Ann moved to memory care in September 2020 and passed away on March 8, 2021 with her family by her side.

Ann will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her strength, poise, and independence, as well as her generosity, soft chuckle, and twinkle in her eyes. She is survived by her son Marc Julien Anderson, daughter-in-law Shirley, granddaughter Darcy and her husband Amal Patel and great-grandsons Owen and Nicholas; and her grandson Adam and his wife Ali and her two daughters Alexandra and Evangeline Garrison.
