Dennis Gormley Obituary

Dennis Harvey Gormley left us on October 21, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed.

Denny was born to Harold and Alice (White) Gormley on January 28, 1947, in Wenatchee, Washington. One of five children, they spent a great deal of time outdoors, fishing and camping with the extended family in the area. The family moved around the Oregon and Washington area for many years. Prior to his Senior year, they settled in the Roseburg area. He graduated from Roseburg High School in 1965.

In November 1965, he married Sharon Foster. They had three children. Denny had been working as a carpenter with his father for a few years and continued to do so. The family moved around the Pacific Northwest and Midwest. In 1973, they decided to make their home in Terrebonne.

In 1984, Denny met his other half, Marian Bray. They were married in July 1988, and made their home in Prineville. Marian and her three children were a welcome addition to our lives. He had many pets throughout the years. Gypsy and their pack of Dachshunds Bennie, Ollie and Mocha Jo helped fill his life with love.

Denny was a Journeyman Carpenter and spent many years working in the trade as part of the Brotherhood. In 1980, he took an administrative job in the organization. With the economic changes in the area, he eventually switched careers. He drove truck for a local company for several years, eventually landing at the Crook County Road Department. He retired in 2015 but continued to work during the summers to stay busy.

Denny was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping, particularly in the Ochoco’s. He was an avid shooter. He participated in Trap Shooting both competitively and for pleasure. He also spent time reloading, always working towards the perfect shot. He embraced technology, using it as an enhancement to his other hobbies, and to the chagrin of his children and grandchildren who introduced him to the wonders of “The Facebook” and Ipod’s. He continued woodworking and cabinetry as a hobby. We are lucky to have the pieces he built during his lifetime.

He was a member of the Prineville Elks (BPOE), serving as Exalter Ruler for three terms. He was also a member of the Prineville Eagles (FOE) and the Madras Trap Club. He and Marian enjoyed the camaraderie, friendships, and activities of these organizations for many years.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents and his son Robert (Bobby). He is survived by his loving wife Marian and his children Andrea (Andi) Gormley Linschied, Dennis (Buddy) Gormley, Tonya Baird, Kim(my) Hardiman and Kiley Wiles, all residing in the greater Central Oregon area, as well as brothers Gary Gormley and Alan Gormley and sisters Vicki Keller and Karen Vande Griend. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

He had an amazing memory and kept us entertained with stories and family history through his last days. He touched many lives and will be remembered fondly.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Max Baer Heart Fund, C/O FOE #2555, 235 NE 4th St, Prineville, OR 97754.
