Dennis Green Obituary

Dennis Norman Green, 90, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022.  There will be a visitation held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Whispering Pines Funeral Home (3168 NE 3rd Street) from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. There will be a service held at Whispering Pines Funeral Home (3168 NE 3rd Street) at 12:30 PM on Friday, February 18, 2022, followed by a military honors service at Juniper Haven Cemetery (1555 N Main Street) at 2:00 PM.  Pastor Mike Wilson of the Prineville Presbyterian Church will be officiating.

Dennis was born in Minnesota. He grew up on a farm and enjoyed helping his family and the neighbors with harvesting and other chores. He retained a love of John Deere tractors for the rest of his life. He spent 2 years in the Army and the end of the Korean War, spending most of his time driving trucks in France. He married Darlyne Jean Arneson in 1955 and together they had 5 children. In 1963 he moved his family to Prineville, Oregon. His first job there was at Coin Millwork where he worked until he retired in 1993. Finding retirement a bit boring he then worked as a Security Guard for Les Schwab for 15 years before finally retiring for good. He was an excellent carpenter and always had a shop where he could work on projects. He built many picture frames, birdhouses, bookcases, vintage-style cabinets, and some custom commissioned projects. His favorite material for most of these items was old barn wood that he would scavenge from various places. He also loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling, and taking his kids on Sunday drives, sometimes just to get them “out of Mom’s hair.” Having lunch at the Senior Center in Prineville was also something he was fond of along with meeting a special group of friends at McDonald’s for coffee in the morning to solve the problems of the world. A couple of Dennis’s other hobbies were reading and watching movies. He loved the old westerns and war movies and his favorite author was Louis L’Amour. He had a mischievous sense of humor and tried not to take things too seriously. This sometimes got him into trouble as a youngster but he grew up to be a very kind, gentle, and generous man. He was always more than willing to help out whenever any of his kids needed a helping hand with anything. This generosity was also extended to other family members, his church (Our Saviors Lutheran-Prineville), and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Sophie Green, brother Ron Green and wife of 62 years Darlyne.

Dennis is survived by his daughter Diane Landis, son Douglas (Cindy) Green, daughter Dorene (Ellis) Clayton, son Daniel Green, daughter Denise (Sam) Bieber, Grandchildren; Jadah,  Jennah,  Joshuah, Jarah, Amanda, Logan, Zachary, Angel, 9 great-grandchildren, brother Raymond (Yvonne) Green.
