Earl ‘Norman’ (Tiny) Barnes, 88, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 at Carriage Place in Prineville, OR, with family by his side. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 6th at 2:00 P.M. at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
Born in Prineville to Alex and Cora (Dow) Barnes on April 10, 1930, Norman continued the family’s roots in the Ochoco Valley. Elisha Barnes, his great-grandfather, was one of the original pioneers to the area. Norman’s father, Alex, was the engineer for the City of Prineville Railway. Barnes Butte, a Prineville landmark, was named after the Barnes family and carries on the legacy of the family’s contributions to the area.
Norman joined the Navy in 1948 and returned to Prineville after being honorably discharged in 1952. On April 9, 1955, Norman married Mable Maxine Clark and together they had three sons Rick, Randy and Rod. Norman worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier then a Postal Clerk. He retired from the Postal Service in 1985, after 31 years of service.
After their retirement, Norman and Mable spent 20 years as full-time RVers. During this period, they typically spent their winters in the southwest U.S., returning to spend time with family in Roseburg and Central Oregon before taking off to enjoy their favorite campgrounds throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Cora; step-mother, Josephine (Disney); wife, Mable; and all of his siblings, Helen Mohler, Lois Jensen, Raymond, James, and Cleo.
Norman is survived by sons Rick and his wife Audrey of Roseburg, Randy and his wife Brenda of Bend, Rod and his wife Donna of Prineville, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
