Obituary

Earl Max Hayton, 88, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022 in Bend, Oregon.

Earl was born one September 7, 1933 in Medford, Oregon to William E. (Newt) and Elva M. Hayton.  Earl attended and graduated from Orland High School in 1951.  Earl joined the Navy and served a 4 year term in Korea. Earl married Shirley A. Richard in Reno, NV in October 1956.  Earl grew up on a ranch outside of Orland California which was later purchased by the Government and is now Black Butte Reservoir.  He then moved to Klamath Falls in 1964 after graduating from Chico State AA with an Agricultural Science degree.  In 1971 Earl moved to Prineville where he worked as an USDA food safety officer in Prineville and Madras for 20 years and retired in 1992.

Earl enjoyed hunting, traveling, and visiting casinos.  He also attended ship reunions with his shipmates from the three Navy destroyers he served on, the VanValkenburg, the English and the Pritchard.  Earl was active duty during the Korean Conflict where he lost his right hand in an accident aboard ship.  He made two World Cruises in the four years he served.

Earl is survived by his son William Anthony (Tony) Hayton; daughter Cherie Camille Skillings (Dan Skillings); son Earl Bradley Hayton along with 8 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Earl is preceded in death by his parents W.E. (Newt) and Elva Hayton.

He will be always remembered by the family and friends he loved.
