Fred Douglas Tarwater, age 82, of Prineville, Oregon, died peacefully surrounded by family from complications of Parkinson on December 5, 2025 at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, Oregon. Doug was born on March 3, 1943 in Callahan, Florida to Clifford Tarwater and Lydia Martin. Doug served in the Air Force for 4 years, He was stationed in Vietnam where he worked as a jet engine mechanic. After leaving the Air Force he worked in heavy construction up until his retirement.
Doug is survived by his wife of 21 years Jeanne Preston, son John Tarwater, step daughters Audrea Hall (Larry), Amber Wedin (Anthony), Teri Clark (David) and step son Bill Parrish. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Sylvia Higginbotham and first wife Patricia Parrish.
Doug loved fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Prineville Band of Brothers where he served on the Honor Guard team.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Prineville Elks Lodge on December 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm, with reception to follow. In keeping with Doug’s wishes, he was cremated, and the family will scatter the ashes at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Band of Brothers.
The family wishes to thank the Lebanon Veteran’s Home, the ICCU staff at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital and Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House for the care that was provided to Doug.
