Gerald "Jerry" Crain Obituary

Gerald R Crain, known to many as Jerry, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at the age of eighty-eight. He was born to Roy and Hazel Crain in Prineville, Oregon, where he spent his entire life.

When Jerry was eight years old, his family moved to the Ochoco Logging Camp, where his father worked as an equipment operator building roads through the rugged terrain in the Ochoco Mountains. Jerry developed a deep love for the Ochoco’s, and often shared stories filled with fond memories of the time he spent there. He also cherished memories of working at his grandfather’s Moffit Ranch, located in the Post and Barnes Butte areas.

Jerry graduated from Crook County High School in 1956, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He had a lifelong enjoyment of sports, both as a participant and a devoted fan.

In 1958, Jerry married Carole Ann Bowling, and together they had three daughters. As a family, they enjoyed camping, fishing, and branding cattle at the Palmer Ranch in Paulina. Jerry and Carole later divorced in 1979.

In 1980, Jerry met Carol Dill, who became his life partner. Together they enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing in the Ochoco Mountains continuing Jerry’s lifelong connection to the outdoors.

Jerry worked for Consolidated Pine for 40 years, as a lumber grader and later as a quality control supervisor. He took pride in this work and was respected for his dedication and experience.

Jerry will be remembered for his love of the land, his strong work ethic, and the many stories he shared about the places and people that shaped his life.
