James was born on June 16, 1961 in John Day, Oregon to James and Reeta Vista (Hunt) Durbin. He graduated from Crook County High School. He was a Prineville Hotshot, he also worked for multiple logging companies, worked in sawmills and was a truck driver over his career. He loved fishing, hunting and camping.
James was preceded in death by his father James Durbin Sr., his sister Joyce Durbin and his brother Bill Durbin.
He is survived by his daughter Jamey Durbin, grandchildren; Alexis Jones, Aubree Jones, Xander Jones, his mother Vista Reeta Durbin, brother Tom Durbin, sister; Kathy Durbin, Carolyn Shane, nieces and nephews and his childhood best friend Stuart Huggins.
