Julia Ann (Dickson) (Hall) Odegard

Julia Ann Odegard (known as Anne to her square dancing friends and others, Ann to some) went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the age of 83 years young.  There will be a Celebration of Life for Julia Ann that will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Church Of Christ, 1095 E Third Street in Prineville. Phone 541-447-5621. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, and a reception lunch will follow from noon to 2:00 PM.

Julia Ann was born in Springfield on June 20, 1935 to Nadine and Arliegh Dickson. Julia Ann's dad, Arliegh, passed away in December 1941 from injuries sustained in a logging accident. Nadine married Everett Wheeler on March 2, 1942.

Julia Ann spent her early childhood years in the Santiam/Springfield/Cottage Grove area.  Their home burnt down in Cottage Grove around 1948.  There were only a few things saved from their home before it burnt down, one of which was a piano, and the piano is still in the family today.

Julia Ann moved to Kimberly around the age of 13, where her parents, Nadine and Everett, had bought a farm above the North Fork of the John Day River.  She attended school in Monument and built everlasting friendships and to mention the friends she kept in contact with from the valley.

After high school, Julia Ann made her way to Prineville, where she married Luther Stafford.  Together they had two sons, Carl and Steven.

In 1958 Julia Ann married Melvin Hall, of Prineville.  Melvin gave Julia Ann's sons, Carl and Steven his last name legally.  Together, Julia Ann and Melvin had two children, Helen and Kenneth, and then Julia Ann's family became wonderfully, a family of six!

From 1983 to March 29, 2007 Julia Ann was a single woman.  On March 30, 2007, she married Ronald Odegard, and she was widowed on October 22, 2013

Julia Ann so fondly remembered her teenage years in Kimberly.  She said it was beautiful! She loved riding her horses everywhere and going to school sports games of any sort.  She enjoyed camping and hunting up Rudio Mountain and Holmes Creek, gardening with her mother, gathering the eggs (watching out for the chicken kaki) and playing the piano together.

After moving to Prineville to begin her adult life, she became a meat cutter.  Her experience from her growing up on a farm provided her great knowledge.  She also worked as a nurse's aide and did domestic home cleaning.  She went back, studied for and received her GED at the age of 40, but mostly she was a MOM.  Julia Ann loved being a mom!  It came natural to her.  She was warm, attentive, supportive, playful, caring and kind.  She listened to them and took the time to listen! She gave guidance and discipline, took them to Sunday school to learn about Jesus and did her best to teach them right from wrong.  She still gave words of encouragement into their adulthood!  Julia Ann's heart was full of love for each and everyone of her four children, more than they could ever know!

In Julia Ann's later single years, she loved to travel and dance, boy howdy did she love to dance.  It didn't matter what style of dance, however, she did favor square dancing.  She was on the go and didn't travel light.  If you needed something, she most likely had it.  She belonged to several different square dancing clubs throughout many years, including her married years to Ron and, after she was widowed, until she could not remember the steps.  Julia Ann enjoyed many kinds and styles of music, but Western and Christian were her faves.  She could carry a tune and beat when listening to music that the Alzheimer's/Dementia could not take from her.

Julia Ann had the gift to gab, rarely was lost for words.  She rarely missed a function but had tendencies to run late.  No matter how hard she tried to be on time, there was something that caused her to be late. (Love you).

She told stories of her life and experiences and was always so proud!  She could tell stories of her life that were interesting and would keep you asking for more.

Julia Ann was always smiling, she had an infectious smile!  She was always getting complements and comments on her beautiful smile!  She had a way of making everyone she encountered feel good.  She never had an ill word to say about anyone! She was a giving woman and would help out whomever, even though she didn't have it to give.  She was a simple woman and lived a simple life and loved it!

Chocolate chip cookies, Hershey milk chocolate bars, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and ICE CREAM were her favorites, along with the color green.

Julia Ann loved and often talked of all her immediate family and all the other many, many family members!

A friend said recently that she loved Julia Ann and said she was unique.  Another said she was so special.  I believe that those two words are perfect words to describe her! UNIQUE and SPECIAL.

Julia Ann loved Jesus and truly believed in Goad as her almighty Savior!  She would always say, "Pray and ask God or thank him, that is the best I can tell you, you know this is the way".  She attended the Church Of Christ in Prineville and loved her fellow members! Her Christian belief and faith of going to Heaven one day was her comfort!  God has received a beautiful woman in Heaven, where I am sure she is smiling, dancing, entertaining and having ice cream!  Her battle with Alzheimer/Dementia is over.

Julia Ann is survived by her brothers, Bill Dickson and Art Dickson (Maggie Dickson), four children; sons Carl Hall, Steve Hall and Kenneth Hall (Shelly Hall) and her daughter Helen Wolf (Bill Wolf), nine grandchildren; Danny Hall (Kristal Hall), Roy Hall, Nikie Hall, Ty Hall (Chelsie Reeves), Anthony Wolf (Shelby Wolf), Logan Taylor, Garrett Taylor (Emily Sepulveda), LeAndra Hall (Jimmy Alexander) and Wesley Hall (Shantel Emhoff), and 14 great grandchildren; Andrew Hall, Nathan Hall, Brandon Hall, Niomi Hall, Tayler Clark, Levi Butterfield, Gracie Lopez, Brianna Ennis, Sadie Hall, Kaidynn Wolf, Reagynn Wolf, McKinlee Wolf, Fallyn Hall and Brody Hall.

Julia Ann was preceded in death by her father, Arliegh Dickson, mother Nadine Wheeler, stepfather Everett Wheeler, bothers; Chuck and Fred Dickson, granddaughter Jessica Ennis and sister-in-law Lois Dickson.
