Norma Jones Obituary

Norma Francis Jones passed away at home on May 1, 2023. She was 96 years old.

Norma was born December 30, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to parents Carl and Vera (Simpson) Heggen as the 2nd of 4 children.  She attended various schools in Des Moines during her youth eventually graduating in 1945 from East High School. She went on to become a Registered Nurse after graduating from Lutheran Nursing School in Iowa City, Iowa in spring of 1949.

Norma married her high school sweetheart Evan Lewis Jones October 2, 1948.  She worked as a private nurse for several years until her husband completed his medical degree in general medicine at University of Iowa. In 1954 they moved from Iowa and planned to settle in Bend but were told  Bend had too many doctors and to go to Prineville. So they came to Prineville and set up in the old Medical/Dental building on 4th Street.

Norma spent many years as homemaker and mom to their 6 children and numerous foster children. She went back to work as office nurse for Evan for several years before they retired in 1997.

Norma was an avid bowler for many years starting in 1958 and finally stopping at age 92. Norma had many interests through the years including ceramics, gardening, sewing and crafting. She had an extensive Santa Claus collection with Santas of all sizes and shapes numbering over 200. She enjoyed bringing them out every year at Christmas and displaying them on her shelves and mantle.

Norma loved to read and also was a member of a book club for years. In 1974 Norma joined P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter AD here in Prineville. She was an active member for many years helping with their annual fundraisers including Christmas Bazaar and summer yard sale.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, a son, Scott Thomas Jones in 1971, and a daughter, Jan Elizabeth Jones Bony in 2020.

Norma is survived by daughter Ellen Choy (Michael), son Todd Jones (Toni), daughter Janine Morris (Charlie) and daughter Jeanette Harris (Rick); 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
