Ray Elmer Oeltjen, 77, of Prineville, Oregon, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025.
Born September 21, 1947, in Columbus, Nebraska, Ray grew up on a cattle ranch, where he honed his skills as an exceptional horseman and learned the value of hard work. He dedicated his career to the shooting sports industry, becoming a respected figure in his field.
An avid outdoorsman, Ray hunted across the globe and was a championship trap shooter who taught hundreds to shoot, passionately advocating for Second Amendment rights. Known as a kind, family-oriented mentor, Ray’s guidance inspired many to ask, “What would Ray do?” His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Doris (Maw) Oeltjen; daughter, Nicole Oeltjen; and parents-in-law, Roy and Lorraine Groteluschen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Janice Oeltjen; daughter, Michelle Cermak; son-in-law Jim Cermak; and grandchildren, Savanna and Nicolas Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at Whispering Pines Funeral Home in Prineville, Oregon on June 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be held at Whispering Pines on June 8, 2025 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life to be held in Nebraska later this year. Time and place TBD.
